FDSA U18 CAPS 3 - Moncton First Touch 1
Posted by justfred.ca on June 30th, 2008
Two goals from U16 pick up, David Jamael and a single from Patrick Burtt carried the CAPS to victory on a rain soaked Chapman Field. Matt Archibald replied for Moncton from the penalty spot.
The CAPS, undetered by the rain pouring rain, began the game on the attack. After 9 minutes, Jeff Khoury and Jason Rouse combined to Jamael in the box and he made no mistake from 12 metres out. The CAPS continued to press with Rouse being stopped at point blank range by Brad Hughes in the Moncton net, before the keeper parried a Duplessis effort away for a corner.
At the other end, the CAPS defence was in control with Ray Harris and Mitchel Stewart snuffing out any threat and Brett Johnson and Dylan Hughes barring any passage along the wings. At the 44 minute mark, Marc Rossignol did well to get a cross in on the right wing, the ball was cleared to Patrick Burtt and he fired a shot into the top corner from 25 metres out.
In the second half the CAPS continued to exploit Moncton's backline with Khoury coming close after dribbling his way past two defenders. At the 49 minute mark, Jamael beat Moncton's off-side trap taking a Harris pass in stride and chipping the ball over the onrushing keeper.
With 15 minutes left, Moncton was awarded a penalty, which Matt Archibald fired home to reduce the deficit. Moncton had a quick 2 on 2 break with 5 minutes left, but the resulting shot was wel saved by Marc Gagnon in the Fredericton net.
The CAPS are now 2 wins, 2 ties and 1 loss on the season and head to Saint John on Thursday.
