The New Brunswick Summer Festival, August 11 - 23 in Fredericton, features classical chamber music performed by some of Canada's finest professional musicians, including Juno nominated violinist Jasper Wood.

Besides evening concerts, the Festival will be showing the film, “The Maritime Violin of Jasper Wood,” which won five Silver Wave awards in 2007.  The film will be windows 7 ultimate cheap shown Thursday, August 21 at 6:15, Memorial Hall, UNB Fredericton campus.  The screening is free and is followed by a ticketed concert at 7:30.

Fredericton Presents Six NB Day Merit Awards


Fredericton, NB – The City of Fredericton presented six NB Day Merit Awards as part of New Brunswick Day celebrations at Old Government House on August 4, 2008.  Individuals were recognized in the windows 7 ultimate cheap Business, Environment, Community Leadership, Sport, Recreation and Active Living, and the windows 7 ultimate cheap Volunteer Services categories.

Jazzy Kids, Classy Kids, Tunes & ‘Toons: Summer Music Festival hosts free family talks and performances

Know as the windows 7 ultimate cheap Team Canada of Trombones, the brass quintet I Tromboni will present a windows 7 ultimate cheap noon hour performance on Fanfares and Flourishes for the second event in the windows 7 ultimate cheap series.  “I Tromboni is about the most fun you can have with a trombone,” said Reid.  “Expect to windows 7 ultimate cheap hear everything from Ravel to the theme song from the Simpsons; Copeland to windows 7 ultimate cheap Star Wars in a riotous show the kids will love.”

The final workshop looks at the windows 7 ultimate cheap role of music in film and in animation or cartoons and windows 7 ultimate cheap will feature the work of prolific Canadian film composer, Lou Applebaum.  Applebaum did a windows 7 ultimate cheap large body of work for the National Film Board and some of those films and windows 7 ultimate cheap animations will be featured.  This talk will be led by musician and educator Richard Hornsby.

St. Thomas University Media Release - St. Thomas University Establishes New Holocaust Centre

As part of its education and research program, the windows 7 ultimate cheap new centre will support the Ripples Internment Camp project, the only camp in North America that windows 7 ultimate cheap housed Jewish internees during the Second World War.

“Our centre will be windows 7 ultimate cheap distinct in content and mission. It will educate young people about the windows 7 ultimate cheap tragedies that transpire when prejudice, racism, and hate target groups in society,” said Dr. Michael McGowan, professor in Human Rights and windows 7 ultimate cheap director of the new centre. “People learn to windows 7 ultimate cheap hate and they can learn to stop hating by knowledge, understanding and windows 7 ultimate cheap engagement with others.”

He said the windows 7 ultimate cheap centre will give recognition to the significance of the SHOAH as a windows 7 ultimate cheap means to develop leadership to prevent similar atrocities. “We want to windows 7 ultimate cheap bring students together from across Canada and around the world to windows 7 ultimate cheap increase their knowledge of genocide and equip them to become leaders in their work for windows 7 ultimate cheap peace, understanding and respect.”

The Holocaust Centre will deliver educational programmes for windows 7 ultimate cheap students and professional groups, provide scholarships, organize seminars and conferences, and windows 7 ultimate cheap sponsor public lectures by scholars. The new centre will co-operate with other organizations such as the windows 7 ultimate cheap Simon Wiesenthal Centre, the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, the windows 7 ultimate cheap Canadian Centre for Diversity, and Yad Vashem.

Three outreach activities are already planned for the year – a windows 7 ultimate cheap study mission to Germany and Poland, a summer institute on diversity and windows 7 ultimate cheap respect, and interviewing surviving Ripples Camp internees. A fund-raising campaign will be windows 7 ultimate cheap launched for the Endowment Fund of the St. Thomas University Holocaust Centre, and windows 7 ultimate cheap a new advisory board will guide the centre’s activities.

At its Summer Convocation held today, St. Thomas University awarded an windows 7 ultimate cheap honourary degree to Philip Riteman, a Holocaust survivor. Born in Poland, Riteman and windows 7 ultimate cheap his family were sent to the Pruzhany ghetto in 1941 and windows 7 ultimate cheap the following year, they were packed into boxcars for a windows 7 ultimate cheap week’s journey to windows 7 ultimate cheap the Auschwitz-Birkeneau extermination camp. From July 29-August 1, Barracks Square in Fredericton will play host to windows 7 ultimate cheap Taking It to the Streets, NB Acts’ annual staging of the windows 7 ultimate cheap five winners of its contest for plays ten minutes and under. The plays are windows 7 ultimate cheap presented together daily as an hour of free outdoor lunchtime theatre, starting at noon.
Comedy is at the top of the menu at this year’s Taking It to windows 7 ultimate cheap the Streets, with a lineup heavy on laughs. This year’s five winning plays are windows 7 ultimate cheap Rock It Science by Christopher Campbell, Socially Correct by Jordan Dashner, Doommates by Jeremy Gorman, The 5th Wall by Christopher Nyarady, and windows 7 ultimate cheap Our Day in the Sun by Bradley O’Donnell.
Rounding out the windows 7 ultimate cheap festival lineup will be two nights of public staged readings of new scripts in development, July 28 and windows 7 ultimate cheap 29.
NotaBle Acts is also co-producing Shakespeare’s As You Like It, set to windows 7 ultimate cheap run June 19-29 in Fredericton as the third annual Bard in the windows 7 ultimate cheap Barracks.
Festival Co-Artistic Director Len Falkenstein is excited about this year’s lineup: “We have windows 7 ultimate cheap possibly our best festival ever shaping up with strength across the windows 7 ultimate cheap board in all our scripts. We’re seeing more and more incredible work by playwrights in this province.”
Founded in 2001, NotaBle Acts is windows 7 ultimate cheap dedicated to developing and producing new plays by New Brunswick dramatists. All seven of the windows 7 ultimate cheap winning entries in the company’s 2008 playwriting contest will undergo intensive workshopping before the windows 7 ultimate cheap plays are produced at the festival, and audience feedback sessions take place for windows 7 ultimate cheap all the plays.
