justFRED-0-GRAM So Long, November
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 28th, 2008
Welcome to the end of the last week in November...with December
starting on Monday. This is so-called Black Friday south of the
border as American shoppers hit the stores following US Thanksgiving.
But we focused on the third and final espisode in our series from the
FHS production of The Music Man, plus some early signs of Christmas.

http://justFRED.ca/

With November winding down, it's the annual Kinsmen Santa Claus
Parade tomorrow (it's on the southside this year). The Music Man
continues, there's more theater at STU (The Importance of Being
Earnest), a free film tonight at the Charlotte St. Arts Center, and a
whole lot more.

http://justFRED.ca/calendar.php

What a crazy week here for us with a major video production - 3 hours
shot and produced in 2 days (including a couple of hair-raising drives
to Saint John in the fog) plus the start of a major project for a
client in Ottawa that's going to keep us flat out for the next two
months.

Whew.

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Lights, Camera, Music
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 28th, 2008
The Music Man opens tonight @ FHS - check out our rehearsal photos.
Plus Luis Nadeau provided some shots of a film being made near
Fredericton. And we get some goodbye waves from the market.

http://justFRED.ca/

Lots to do in the calendar today - including a blood donor clinic.
Check out the details...

http://justFRED.ca/calendar.php

We're still working on sponsorships / advertisers for justFRED - and
may have some good news in a few days. But we're also being pulled
into other projects - web site development in Europe, video
production in Nova Scotia, consulting work in Ottawa. And given the
state of the economy, we can't be picky about paying jobs.

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Wintry Weekend
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 26th, 2008
Snow, snow and more snow...plus a visit to the SPCA's Pet Photos with
Santa @ Green Village...Saturda @ the market, another of Cindi's
sunsets...

http://justFRED.ca/

We wrapped up our 100th photo shoot at the Saturday market this
weekend. It's been fun watching the seasons change through that
particular lens, but with zero advertising support from the market or
any of the vendors...

On the other hand, we're getting increased demand for our work
elsewhere. And as much as we'd prefer to focus our time and effort on
Fredericton, we have to go through the open doors.

For the time being, we've decided to keep the calendar going, and the
free classifieds, and the directory, and we'll do a few community
based photo shoots each week.

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Crispy Mornings
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 24th, 2008
The overnight temperatures are on the verge of minus double digits -
but there are still signs of life outdoors, from the squirrel on the
mailbox to colourful mushrooms on trees and stumps. Indoors, the
remembrance service at the Fredericton Community Kitchen...

http://justFRED.ca/

Warm up with a visit to the 10,000 villages craft sale, or get even
warmer with Keith Hallett at the Social Club this afternoon. That and
more in the calendars.

http://justFRED.ca/calendar.php

We hope to have some photos in the next day or two from a movie set
in the area, but our movie making prowess pales in comparison with
the newest international centre of film production: Nollywood
(Nigeria). Nigerian film makers are turning out 40-50 features a
week, making it the third largest producer of movies behind Hollywood
and India (nicknamed Bollywood).

Low cost cameras and digital non-linear editing - and a street and
local market based distribution system - are credited with the
phenomenon.

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM The First Snow(man)
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 20th, 2008
The first taste of snow was enough - barely - to make the first
snowman of the season. We also attended the Trails Coalition meeting,
went up high on the hill, and spent another day at the office.

http://justFRED.ca/

The remembrance service for the homeless is tonight. So, too, the
whisky and spirts expo. And much more.

http://justFRED.ca/calendar.php

Probably wishful thinking to keep the barbeque out back...time to put
it away while it can still be moved. Ah, summer. Why did you leave so
quickly?

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Bubble Party
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 19th, 2008
We were there at the start as several dozen volunteers under the
direction of a small work crew began putting the bubble in place at
Chapman field. Plus we visit The Kubbyhole, Fredericton at night, and
a homemade bagel bash.

http://justFRED.ca/

There's a trails coalition meeting at the ODell Park Lodge tonight.
One of many events in the calendar:

http://justFRED.ca/calendar.php

Yes, that was snow on the ground overnight. And there's still a month
to go before the official start of winter.

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Ooops
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 19th, 2008
For some reason that I haven't completely figured out yet, yesterday's
home page update got shuffled out of order - and ended up in August
instead of November.

So - let's try that again...

http://justFRED.ca/

The calendar also went down for part of the morning. Talk about the
Monday morning blues. But it's back up and working properly again.

http://justFRED.ca/calendar.php

We've been fairly fortunate with computer glitches in the past couple
of months. Just the odd bit of trouble here and there. So I suppose we
were due.

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Monday Monday
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 17th, 2008
The Silver Wave Film Festival wrapped up Sunday with the screening of
Tony Merzetti's documentary about the Mazucca brothers. We also
visited Christmas in the Country, the Christmas Bazaar at St. Francis
of Assissi, three galleries of outdoor art works by the students @ the
NBCCD...and more.

http://justFRED.ca/

Lots to do in the calendar this week - from Flu shots to a free legal
clinic.

http://justFRED.ca/calendar.php

We quietly celebrated an anniversary on Sunday, by the way: justFRED
was two years old yesterday.

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Deep in Debt
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 17th, 2008
A small gathering of UNB students, a few faculty and a crop of
reporters and photographers yesterday at the protest over the high
debt loads being carried by New Brunswick's graduates. The student
organizers were hoping to collect stories totalling $1 million in
debt from students to fill the debtometer they'd hung from the rear
of the student union building. They were all wrong. By the time the
protest took place, the total had risen to $8 million.

You have to wonder about our commitment to the future when we load
students up with crushing debts. It might be good for Canada's banks
- while their profits will likely be down in 2008, they recorded more
than $19 BILLION in profits in 2007.

We also stopped by the Canadian Paraplegic Association (NB) annual
art and antique auction, checked out that luscious full moon, and
more.

http://justFRED.ca/

The Silver Wave Film Festival continues through Sunday - get out and
see a mix of local, national and international films, Christmas @ The
Market continues, and a whole lot more.

http://justFRED.ca/calendar.php

Oh, and by the way, it's justFRED's 2nd birthday on Sunday. Terrible
two's...sounds about right.

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Students Making Changes
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on November 14th, 2008
Student designers from the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design
teamed up with Changes to revitalize wedding gowns donated to the
not-for-profit...we visited the fashion show and tea last night.

http://justFRED.ca/

Another group of students will be holding a rally - part of a
cross-province event - to protest the high cost of post secondary
edution in New Brunswick that leaves the majority of grads with
crushing debts, not the best way to begin their careers.

On a happier note, the Silver Wave Film Festival is back - with the
opening gala taking place this evening.

http://justFRED.ca/calendar.php

Get out an enjoy what looks like another beautiful sunny day.

Cheers,

George
