The Scots are in town in full force for the annual NB Highland Games,
plus there's theatre and music and the SPCA's dog wash fundraiser and
and and...if you can't find anything to do in Fredericton this
weekend, you're just not trying.

We'll be spending some time at the Highland Games this weekend - so
if you see us with our cameras, say hello. But more importantly,
don't forget to Say Cheese, Please.
Cheers,
George

Our note from yesterday about Province of Canada Day got a response
from Yamane Muzey that our population numbers were off - she's right.
We were using 2006 stats while the current figures suggest that
Canada's population is closer to 36 million than 31 million.
So, history buffs, did you know that today marks the 41st anniversary
of the late Charles de Gaulle's famous 'vive le Qu?bec libre' speech
in Montreal? Never a dull moment in Canada, eh?
Cheers,
George

Before we had Canada Day - as a result of confederation on July 1st,
1867 - we had The United Province of Canada, the name of the British
colony formally established on this day in 1840 when Upper Canada and
Lower Canada were merged by the British Parliament. The population of
Canada then? About a million, compared with more than 31 million
today.
Cheers,
George
