justFRED-0-GRAM Flood Watch
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on April 23rd, 2008
River Watch says that low-lying areas adjacent to the Saint John River
are now in flood stage..."In Fredericton, the water level was 6.51
metres at 7 a.m., and is expected to increase to 7.0 metres on
Wednesday and to 7.4 metres on Thursday. Flood stage is 6.5"

You can see the evidence for yourself in our galleries.

Depsite the threat of flooding, getting outside for a walk seems to
be among the most popular activities this week. There are other
options - the end of the curling season, Tai-chi for seniors, bridge,
and more - in our calendars.

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-4-23&c=1

We're headed out on our own river watch today to check out the
conditions around town. If you see us with our cameras, don't forget
to Say Cheese...

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Earth Day
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on April 22nd, 2008
It's Earth Day...an opportunity to think about minimizing our personal
footprint on planet earth. In Fredericton, the specific effort is
aimed at reducing the amount of nightly light pollution.

Meantime, the city is preparing emergency services for residents in
the event of flooding of low lying areas...and you can see the
evidence of the rising water levels in our photo galleries...

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

In the calendar today, author Robert Raynor is at the Nashwaaksis
Library this morning, and the Women's Business Networks expo is this
afternoon at the Wu Centre. These and more events...

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-4-22&c=1

And we finally loaded up the last of the weekend Market photos. Now
that the fine weather is upon is, the crowd was a lot bigger than
anything we've seen since last fall. And you know we feel about
asking people to Say Cheese, Please...

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM River Watch
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on April 21st, 2008
A glorious weekend that drew a massive crowd to the market on Saturday
- so many photos we had to break them into three batches. The first
two are already online and we'll post the third tonight...plus the
musical flea market @ Musiplex, Sassy the SPCA's house cat's 15th
birthday party, and more.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

Lots of spring activities in the calendar this week...from
photo-journalism exhibits to the usually busy music scene...

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php

We're keeping a close eye on the water levels on the Saint John River
- what will all that snow we had this winter and the sudden increase
in daytime and nighttime temperatures. We can do without spectacular
flood photos, thanks...

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Hot & Colds
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on April 17th, 2008
Our daily newsletter took an unscheduled break this week thanks to a
nasty flu bug...we managed to keep the site up to date, but the
newsletter was just a bit too much.

What you may have missed in the galleries: photos and videos from the
rehearsals of the Bonnie Kilburn Dancers, performances from the
Fredericton Music Festival, photos of Buck 65, Cadence Weapon,
Fortune's Hand and a lot of very spring-like scenery.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

There's no shortage of weekend activity starting today in the
calendars, including a bunch of yard and garage sales, the New
Brunswick Country Showcase, the Music Flea Market @ Musicplex, and
much more.

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php

The continued mild weather - with the possibility of some rain - may
lead to ice jams and flooding We can only wait and see...and hope
that winter's cold and flu season is finally over.

Achoo...

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Tiny Dancers
Posted by jfnews@justFRED.ca on April 13th, 2008
Winter tried to sneak back again on Saturday morning with a brief snow
flurry - but the huge piles are quickly shrinking to black-edged
accents along city streets, and the river is open and rising.

You'll see that and more in the galleries, including our weekly visit
to the market, and the first of our series from the weekend rehearsal
of the Bonnie Kilburn dancers as they prepare for their big show.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

There are a few events in the calendar for today - fewer than usual -
and that's because our focus has been on getting our grand new
calendar ready for launch. The transition is time consuming - and not
without some difficulties. Meantime, here are the events for today:

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-4-14&c=1

We'll keep you posted on the progress as we move events into the new
calendar...

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Snowless in April
Posted by justfred.ca on April 11th, 2008
If we can make it until midnight, we'll be officially snowless for ONE
WHOLE WEEK. The last time that happened was back in late October.

Which is why you'll find an abundance of spring celebration photos in
the galleries.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

There are also a couple of special items we'd like to bring to your
attention:

How do Rubik's Cubes Work?

http://justfred.ca/cmine/displayimage.php?album=796&pos=0

How do heat packs work?

http://justfred.ca/cmine/displayimage.php?album=topn&cat=-796&pos=48

If you want the most Smarties in a box...which colour should you
choose?

http://justfred.ca/cmine/displayimage.php?album=128&pos=3

And in the calendars for the weekend, a huge choice of activities
from Circus @ Boom Nightclub to the first Friday Night Dance Club
Party @ Musiplex.

Friday:

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-4-11&c=1

Saturday:

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-4-12&c=1

And Sunday:

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-4-13&c=1

The weatherman is calling for rain on Saturday - which could lead to
some flooding thanks to the unusually heavy snowfall this winter,
another indication that spring is here to stay...

Now if we can only notch up one snowfree week...

Cheers,
George

justFRED-0-GRAM Spring Loaded
Posted by justfred.ca on April 10th, 2008
With termperatures well into the double digits, winter coats and boots
have been shedded and skateboards and bicycles dug out of storage - as
you can see from the galleries.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

In the calendar today, the annual tri-city mixer featuring businesses
from Fredericton, St. John and Moncton, plus the opening of the new
jewellery and metal arts exhibit by students from the Craft College.

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-4-10&c=1

Today is the birthdate of Milton Fowler Gregg who was born at Snider
Mountain in 1892. He served as a stretcher bearer and then infantry
officer in France where he was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery
during trench warfare in 1918. He later served as President of UNB
from 1944 to 1947 when he was elected to the House of Commons. He
went on to work for the United Nations in Iraq, Indonesia and New
York, and died in Fredericton in 1978.

justFRED-0-GRAM The Sun Works Again
Posted by justfred.ca on April 9th, 2008
After months of being little more than an orange ball off in the
distance, the sun appears to be working again...which means it can
burn you...time to start paying attention to those UV warnings.

In the galleries today, you'll see cyclists on the street, folks in
shorts and t-shirts, plus some indoor activity as efforts continue to
create a centre of excellence for advanced learning technologies
here...plus we continue with our videos from STEM expo...

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

The Learn NB symposium continues today at the Atken Centre, the
Fredericton Fish & Game association meets tonight, Dub Antenna plays
at The Phoenix, and more...

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-4-9&c=1

An historical note for today: New Brunswick's longest serving and
some would say most controversial premier, Richard Hatfield, was born
on this day in 1931.

justFRED-0-GRAM Bagel Day?
Posted by justfred.ca on April 8th, 2008
It's always SomeDay SomeWhere...and today is no exception.

In the galleries today, some photos of the Michael Valpy lecture last
night at St. Thomas University, photos of the open river - the first
time in months - and another video from our STEM Expo series, this
time an explanation of how Heat Packs work. Thanks, Katie...

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

In the calendar today, the opening day of the 2008 Symposium on
Advanced Learning Technologies presented by LearnNB and the Combat
Training Centre Gagetown plus our usual collection of community
events including meetings of Photo Fredericton and Moms of Multiples.

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-4-8&c=1

And Bagel Day doesn't sound like a half-bad idea. Especially combined
with Smoked Salmon Week and Cheese Month...

justFRED-0-GRAM Happy Internet Day
Posted by justfred.ca on April 7th, 2008
The Internet turns 39 today...so we're celebrating with our biggest
batch of videos ever.

In addition to our photos from various concerts and the market on
Saturday, you'll find videos of Chris Cummings plus Steve Waylon &
Rebel Ridge live @ The Plex, the UNB Chorale and three videos from
STEM Expo - a general overview, the hidden power of vegetables and
the truth about Smarties.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

It's the first full week of April - and a full week of events in the
Calendar including a review of the city's master plan, the usual busy
entertainment scene and much more.

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php

We have more STEM Expo videos in editing - from how to crush a bridge
to protecting yourself from salmonella poisoning. And we're working on
our new calendar...it's going to be another busy week in Freddy Beach.
And, with any luck, we'll start seeing some green beneath the rapidly
melting snow.

Cheers,
George
