justFRED-0-GRAM Final Winter Weekend
Posted by justfred.ca on March 14th, 2008

Even if you're not Irish, you can still look forward to the annual St.

Patrick's Day celebration as a sign that Old Man Winter is about to

leave the building. On paper, anyway.

In the galleries today, photos from the Irish night at the James

Joyce Pub, the new Sara Petite exhibit at the Charlotte Street Arts

Centre, homemade bread by Robert Meade, the Big Hearts video

performance by Brianna Corey and more.

As you might expect, the weekend calendar is green green green - with

a variety of Irish events - along with the SPCA's pet photos with the

Easter bunny on Saturday, Palm Sunday celebrations and more.

The Irish influence continues all week - and we'll keep adding the

photos to our galleries - along with our collection of smiling faces,

local critters, and some recent musical performances to our galleries.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

In the calendar today, the Irish invasion continues with a concert of

traditional music at the Charlotte St. Arts Centre this evening and

three nights of performances at Dolan's Pub by Shaylid.

justFRED-0-GRAM Irish Eyes
Posted by justfred.ca on March 12th, 2008

The Irish tri-color was raised at City Hall yesterday in advance of

St. Patrick's Day - and a moment of silence observed for the late

Helen O'Connor - followed by a lunch at Dolan's Pub.

You'll find these and other photos in our gallery today:

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

The Irish influence is in the calendar as well, as the local chapter

of the Irish Canadian Cultural Assocation of New Brunswick's

Fredericton chapter honours the Irish person of the year - provincial

Cabinet Minister Greg Byrne - with a party at the James Joyce Pub.

Details about this and other events in our calendars.

Today's the last day to submit your name in our book contest. And no,

you don't need any special answer - just submit your entry here:

http://justfred.ca/contests.php

Another blustery day in store - maybe rain, maybe snow, then turning

very windy and cold overnight. You may need a pick and shovel if the

last rain-snow-freeze is any guide. The good news: Spring officially

beings next week.

I'll Say Cheese! to that.

Cheers,

George

justFRED-0-GRAM Welcome Back!!!
Posted by justfred.ca on March 9th, 2008

The best part of March break - for those of us who weren't able to get

away - is that we're now one week closer to the official end of winter

and the beginning of spring.

Not that the weather is obligated to be spring-like. But we can be

optimistic.

In the galleries, you'll find our latest visit to the market. the

signs of melting snow and ice, ballroom dancing @ The Capital Winter

Club and some kid art.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

The calendar includes a broad collection of art exhibits, the Monday

night series hosted by the NB Film Coop, and Zoya 99's

birthday...(did you think we forgot? we didn't...have a happy

birthday...)

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2008-3-10&c=1

Another birthday of note - the first native-born Canadian novelist

published in Canada - Julia Catherine (Beckwith) Hart born in

Fredericton in 1796.

In honor of Mrs. Hart - and writers in general - we're going to give

away some books by New Brunswick authors this week...Pop over to the

contest entry form - http://justfred.ca/contests.php

- and add your name to a ballot.

Cheers,

George

One Nasty Night
Posted by justfred.ca on March 8th, 2008
March is supposed to LEAVE light a lion...not blast us relentlessly
from day one. So far the only lamb-like behaviour was a bit o' sun last week.
The rain has been pelting down all evening. I know - I've been
wading through puddles and streets turned to rivers all evening.
The rain is now turning to sleet or freezing rain or some variant of
ugly stuff...and my boots are full of water...and there's no way I'm
going back out until the weather settles down.
Instead, we'll process the photos from today and catch up on some
video production.
March break? Hardly.

Cheers,
George

March Break 2008 - Wednesday Update
Posted by justfred.ca on March 5th, 2008
What an awful day outside...a good one to stay indoors and continue
our web site overhaul planning.

We're also working on some website projects for other companies -
mainly outside of New Brunswick and several outside the country. In
this day and age, word travels fast and far.

Meantime, we posted more March Break art camp photos, the first part
of our visit to CHSR Radio, a couple of shots of some very newborn
babies (as a personal favor), and more signs of winter.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

We have another day of hunkering down in front of us, but are
planning to get out and about Thursday and/or Friday when the sun is
supposed to shine and may actually start to function...

Cheers,
George

March Break 2008 - The Tuesday Edition
Posted by justfred.ca on March 4th, 2008
While the DailyFred is taking the week off, we've been busy behind the scenes.

For one thing, we've had our first in-person team meeting in months
now that Mila, our art director and resident Flash queen, is back in
Fredericton.

We continue to post fresh material in the galleries - the first of a
series of art from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery's march break camp,
smiling faces from around Fredericton, Mae Whyte's photo exhibit at
The Playhouse and more.

http://justFRED.ca/cmine/

And the calendar is full as usual, but with a predominance of
activities for school-aged children who're staying in town for the
annual spring break.

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php

Now, we know that not everyone likes change, but it's the nature of
web sites to change. After all, the original justFRED.ca design was
created back in the fall of 1996...about three centuries in Internet time.

Without giving away too many secrets, let's just say that we're going
to make the site simpler to navigate, more user friendly and ready to
take anywhere...not just your computer screen.

Stay tuned.

Cheers,
George

justFRED-0-GRAM March Break
Posted by justfred.ca on March 3rd, 2008

Yes, we're late with the Monday morning Daily Fred...not that we

didn't brave yet another weekend storm to add to the photo galleries.

You'll find our visit to the Market, Crumb's Cafe, a herd o' cows,

and more....

http://justFRED.ca/

And since it is March break, you'll find plenty of non-school

educational activities in the calendar for this week.

http://justfred.ca/justfred.forums/calendar.php

We'll be out and about this week, but we also have some

re-organization to do that includes properly setting up our

production office at Musiplex, and finishing off a few development

projects. So the Daily Fred is going to take a March break of its own

until next Monday.

Have a great week - and if you see our cameras - don't forget to Say

Cheese!!!

Cheers,

George
