So far, more than $50 in donations to the Fredericton Emergency Shelters from justFRED members. Fantastic response. Somebody's in for a nice massage, dinner, and dancing.

We need your help to raise money for the Fredericton Emergency Shelters. This is the toughest time of year for homeless people - and the costliest time of year for the Shelters.

Help us help the Shelter - and have your name entered into two separate contest draws:

- Draw 1: Two one-hour massages by Kiné Concepts

- Draw 2: (http://blogs.justfred.ca/justfred/2007/01/09/its-party-time-donate-to-win/">Contest 15) A pair of tickets for the Second Chance New Year's Party on Saturday, January 13, 2007, featuring Donnie & The Monarchs (cocktails at 5:30, followed by a buffet dinner and dance - tickets can be purchased from The Shelters by calling 452-(TRIP) 8747)

Here's how it works:

1. Make an http://justfred.ca/donnie_monarchs.php">online donation to the Fredericton Emergency Shelter (minimum donation amount is $1 - we'll get an email notification about your donation)


2. Sign up a new member to justFRED


3. Convince the new member you just signed up to make an http://justfred.ca/donnie_monarchs.php">online donation to the Fredericton Emergency Shelter (minimum donation amount is $1)


4. Send an ecard from the http://justfred.ca/cmine/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=-24">Fredericton Emergency Shelter photo gallery on justFRED to jfcontests@justfred.ca including your name/user name and the name/user name of the new member you signed up.

And for every completed entry, we'll...

1. Put a ballot in your name into the draw for a pair of relaxing one-hour massages: one for you and one for every new member you sign up who makes a donation. (Sign up two, that's a total of four ballots - 2 for you, and one for each of your new recruits to justFRED...


2. For every dollar you and your new signups donate to the shelters, we'll put five ballots each into the Contest #15 draw for a pair of tickets to the Shelters' New Year's party...


3. ...and donate all of the proceeds that we receive to the Shelters.

The contest closes on Friday (January 12/2007) at 4 p.m. We'll announce the winners as soon as we have a chance to tally up all of the entries and draw the winning names.

A special bonus for the first completed entry: we'll double your ballots for both draws.

The rest of the local media are finally picking up on the story we first wrote about last month: Enterprise Fredericton and the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce choosing an Ontario company to produce and host a directory of local businesses.

On CBC Radio this morning, the Chamber defended the move saying they'd no choice if they wanted to partner with Enterprise Fredericton. And a spokesperson for the Enterprise Network said that when they were looking for an online business database two years ago, they were unaware of any companies in the area that could do that kind of work.

What a crock. That was the same excuse Fredericton Tourism used when it hired an out-of-province firm to create their web site.

It's no wonder that we have talented, trained IT professionals working as department store greeters and telemarketers.

I'm waiting for someone to suggest that by outsourcing to Ontario and points west we're actually creating jobs for the young New Brunswickers who are leaving the province in droves to find work elsewhere.

If you're doing to indulge in twisted logic, you might as well go all the way.

On Saturday, January 13th, the Fredericton Emergency Shelters hold their annual Second Chance New Year's Party - with cocktails, buffet dinner and dancing till midnight with Donnie and The Monarchs.

There we were coasting along on dry pavement, sunny skies (well, sometimes) and out of nowhere: Wham. Winter's back.

Put a real brake on today's activities - including the resumption of our contests. So we're meeting again first thing in the morning to get out schedule sorted out, updated prize lists, etc.

More free lunches, software, game demos, massages, etc.

And winner #57 is: JennyH who guessed correctly that we had 56 winners in 2006 with more than 300 prizes handed out including free lunches, MP3 players, video rental certificates, candy, toys, teddy bears, and much more.

So why didn't we close this contest earlier? It's partly due to the email notification problems we're having with those of you who use Aliant: they let some of our email through to you and then arbitrarily bounce the rest of it.

We've been trying - so far unsuccessfully - to get this sorted out since the overwhelming majority of members have told us they want notification of timely issues - such as contests - by email.

The problem with Aliant is intermittently affecting about half of our members.  We never know which email to which members Aliant is going to block. They say they don't know why it's happening, and blame it on the company that manages their electronic mail servers in Ontario.
